Brains Please!

On Friday night I had a major accomplishment. Let me tell you about it....

I met a fellow Canadian for dinner. He just arrived a week before and that meant that I was the "veteran"... oh boy. So it was really up to me as to decide where to go to eat and to do the ordering. Disaster waiting to happen. But I was willing to take on the challenge. Thankfully he had no stipulations on what type of food, I decided that I didn't feel like seafood. After a bit of wandering it started to rain so I ducked in to a restaurant.

There were no pictures to help us and I didn't bring my phrase book. The lady was great and tried to help, but with no English on her part, and no Korean on ours... it was more than a little difficult. She pointed at a few things around the room that other people were eating, I nodded at one and then pointed to the cheapest thing on the menu (28,000 Won) and away we went.

We were first brought the standard multiple side dishes... although this was the first time I had seen purple salad dressing.... that I proceeded to get all over my zipup.

Eventually our meal came and we were presented with a massive plate of noodles/sprouts and seafood...great, we had wandered in to a seafood restaurant, just what I hadn't wanted. There was crab, and octopus and there were things that look like brains, but may have been intestines or some sort of creature that lives in the sea... not sure. I ate more different types of seafood tonight that I every have in my life. I pretended at the time that it was no big deal as my new friend was clearly more worldly than I was in regards to food, but deep down I gave myself a good pat on the back.

Overall I was really proud that I went in and ordered and it wasn't a complete disaster.

Oh. My. God. You are much more brave than I ever could be. Blech. I'm getting dry heaves whenever you describe things...and then you proceed to explain that you actually put it in your mouth. That's when I puke a little.
