Life in the Fast Lane

The title basically explains what my day was like at school....

The Korean teacher that was absent yesterday was also gone today. This meant more switching and that I had to teach, which was okay by me. So for 5 hours I went from class to class for 10-15 minutes and spoke English to the kids. Now, I am sure most of you back home think that this is easy, but it's harder than it sounds. Luckily, I think well on my feet.

Basically, I am loved by most. The preschoolers love me because I make animal sounds with them and act silly. The elementary school kids love me because they think that I am pretty. The only issue is the 15 and 16 year olds who won't talk to me. I know that they can speak English but they won't. I tried to act less like a teacher and even sat down with them and tried talking that way... it worked on a few but some still refused to say anything. the 15 minutes that I had with three of these classes was incredibly difficult. And with no multimedia equipment it's going to be trying to keep them interested in any sort of lesson.

I finished at 7:20 and stood around for ten minutes waiting for my boss to show his face. Then suddenly his wife grabs me and brings me in to her office with a student and I think she was implying for me to talk to the student. This was one of the 13 year olds that I had already had a class with. Neither of us understood what was going on. Then my boss came in and all three talked Korean for 15 minutes. I had to get out of there. My plan was to look completely exhausted and bored and confused and hope that they took pity on me and sent me home. My plan worked! Perhaps I have a future career in silent movies.... oooor not.
