Dancing Machines

Okay, I realized that by calling my Saturday night epic you are expecting a big awesome story... and after telling the story in person a few times I realize that it may be one of those had to be there times where it doesn't sound as good after. But let me say, that this night was amazing, and fun and hilarious. My friend Jeff is from BC and enjoys drinking, much like myself....we get along swimmingly. Cecilia is from Ontario and a nondrinker, however one of the more fun nondrinkers that I have met.

The night begins at a tiny, hole in the wall bar in Bupyeong (an area of Incheon) called Woodstock. This place had three tables and then the bar to sit at. When we arrived the plan was to have one drink and discuss where to go. The plan was thrown out as soon as we had a couple beers and the chair dancing began. A Korean guy wanted to be best friends with Jeff and continued to buy him shots. Cecilia and I were dancing in the very small and short aisle between the bar and the tables to Michael Jackson.

Two of our friends we met.

There is a story from the guy in the above picture. We were drunk and dancing and I made friends with these two. They kept telling me over and over that they were not together, just friends. They told me so much that I figured something was up. Then in a picture taken about 2 minutes after this with me and the guy found him kissing my cheek... nice. He speaks little to no English and the girl spoke little to moderate English. Overall communication was difficult. He kept telling me he thought I was beautiful... thanks, I'm white... that's why you think I'm beautiful. Then he asked for my number, and being drunk I gave it to him. Then he called me to make sure it wasn't a fake. ahaha... nice...

We decided that dancing was in order so we invite everyone to come (no one does) and head out. We headed to a place called Boss Boss. We had to wait in line for quite a while but we were inside so it was okay. We met some cool guys in line and then Jeff left to find a bathroom. During this time the guy from the previous bar calls me and all I can understand is him saying he wants to come with me... I obviously don't want him there so pretend that I don't understand and hang up. Then when Jeff comes back in who is with him but this guy. Really? ugh. The guys we were talking to immediately asked him if we were together, to which I shouted CHINGU! which means friend. Classy I know. Long story short, Jeff, Cecilia and I finally got let in and we left the others waiting in line.

When we first got in Cecilia and I went to the bathroom and when we came back Jeff had told us he just had to pay 80,000 Won. WHAT!?! Yes... 80,000. We got 5 beers, our table and this fruit plate. Hahaha... barf, so expensive. But looking back on the great night that we had it was completely worth it. One of the best things is that they checked your coats for you, and when you wanted to go dance your table was still there when you came back..beer, fruit and all. We also basically had a little guy that was like our server and to get his attention you held up your lamp and in about 4 seconds he would be at your table.
Later on in the night I was asked if I wanted to go on a booking. Not entirely sure what that meant but he kept pointing to a table with some guys at it and motioning (but more asking) if I wanted to go. I've heard that many places that this happens and then the guys will buy the girl drinks and she talks to them and then can choose to stay or leave. I don't really know protocol and was having such a good time that I said no. It would have been a great story though.

Later on our friend from line came over (not the one that followed me to the bar, I think he took off). I call this guy Boss Boss, because I don't know his name and I met him at Boss Boss. He was wearing a shirt that said Dance Party on it, how could you not LOVE that. We all hung out and danced and had such a good time. Later he brought over his little friend and kept trying to get him to talk to me... it was like he was trying to set us up.. kind of weird. But of course, I was drunk and saw the humor in the situation. Boss Boss is going to university in Seoul and his two other friends are still in the military serving their mandatory two years. His English was decent, but I was also drunk so maybe I just speak better Korean when I'm drunk.

Here are a bunch of random bar pictures from the night....

The awesome DJ who I loved!

Cecilia bailed about 2:30... not bad for being sober. Jeff and I stayed until around 5:00. Then we went in search of McDonalds. We were about two blocks away but somehow got lost and ended up taking a cab. For two blocks... that's how awesome we are. After our breakfast we headed to the subway and headed home. After Jeff got off the train I passed out. I woke up to a dark train at the end of the line. I got up, walked across the platform and got on another train and went home. Luckily I live on the second to last stop so getting home wasn't much of a pain. Hopefully I don't make a habit of falling asleep on the train. I walked in at 7am and fell in to bed.

The night was amazing. I know it doesn't sound like it... but it was my first dancing night in Korea... I have to admit that going to a place with all Koreans was more fun than going to a place full of foreigners. I liked feeling special and important...coming back to Canada is going to suck in this regard.
