What a fantastic week I'm having! I really can't put my finger as to why but I assume a lot of it has to do with the warm weather. The classes have been amazing for the past three days... I literally walk out of 90% of them laughing. Usually it has to do with the fact that I have just fought with the kids regarding Canada and Korea's standings in the Olympics.
Last night I went out for a new meal that was fantastic... jimdak I think it is called. Basically it's chicken, noodles, tteok (rice cake), potatoes in a "soup". I don't consider it a soup because it seemed more like a bunch of sauce than soup. Then we strode over for a beer at one of my favorite places. There were four of us, two Canadians, an American and a Brit.. basically the beginning of a good joke. There wasn't a responsible one of us in the group however, so our night ended up in to many many beers and taking cabs home at 4:00am.
Part way through the night the one guy picked up two Korean girls. Eventually the four of us and the two Korean girls go to another bar and drink more. The Korean girls asked if me and my one friend were a couple... he is gay... so we had a good laugh... then he told them I was a lesbian. I obviously denied it but not sure if they understood... so now there are probably two Korean girls wandering around thinking that they met a Canadian lesbian. Oh well.. just add two more to the list I guess. They then told me that I looked like Lindsay Lohan. Ahahaha. This is something I love about Korea... they will pick any famous white person they know and tell you that you look like them. Me and the boys had a good laugh at that because I couldn't be further from Lindsay Lohan. Of course my friend turned to me and said "wait, isn't Lindsay Lohan a lesbian?" ... the world was against me that night. But really, the only bad thing about the late night was that I missed a skype date with my parents this morning. I felt like garbage for canceling, but I wouldn't have been any good to anyone if I would have woken up and sat there grumpy and hungover on webcam.
I took a cab home and had the cabbie sing me Korean songs the entire time and then give me a 2,000won discount. Fuck I love the cabs in this country most days.
Also had an interesting experience at work today. The guy that worked at my school before me showed up for a visit. He apparently worked there for 7 years! The only reason he left was because he got a University job. I figure the job has to be pretty decent for someone to stay for 7 years. We had a good talk and for some reason I left feeling better about my job.
Then, in my last class with the three 16 year old girls I had an interesting conversation with one. My favorite girl told me that she ran in to the vice principal on the weekend and that apparently the VP went off about me and how much she liked me, how I was doing a great job and and how I am so "kind" (one of their favorite words here)... and told a bunch of stories about me. Not sure what stories she could have said but whatever. I was always concerned that she didn't like me because she rarely smiles at me anymore, but apparently that's due to stress. These Koreans are stressed the fuck out... really I'm not surprised anymore that they get wasted to the point of puking in the streets on a Wednesday night.
This weekend is a long weekend and while most of my friends are outta town I'm hoping to take advantage of the warm weather and do some exploring, even if it's on my own. I'll try to take pictures but with the broken camera it's really a crap shoot on what's actually gonna come out.
