Life Plans

So I've been in Korea for almost four months now.. and it's about that time where I start getting restless... and sure enough it's hit. I think a big part of it has to do with it being winter and we're running out of things to do. Hopefully Spring will show up soon and it'll be like discovering a whole other world again. Although I am aware with Spring comes insects... mosquitoes mostly. I will then walk around smelling like mosquito spray for the rest of my time here.. mmmm...attractive.

But I've started to think what life holds for me after my original one year in Korea. The options are endless... and to be honest, if I didn't have the debt I do, the decision would be easier and even more exciting. Unfortunately, I am still slightly responsible. So while I want to backpack through South America, get a working Visa in Ireland, take the rail through Europe, learn to surf in Australia, etc... those plans are going to have to be put until likely 2012.... the possibility of two years in Korea is becoming more of a reality. With the second year being used to save up as much money as possible to be able to fund my worldly adventures. Don't worry, I plan arranging it where I am able to come home for a visit some time. I am also looking at spending the money to get my TEFL certification so that on my second year my salary will jump due to my certification and one year experience in Korea. It's hard to part with that initial large chunk of cash though.

To be honest, I wish that I would have had enough courage to do this earlier in life. I hate that it took me until 26 to be confident enough to face the world on my own. But at least I made it. I would have hated to wake up on my 40th birthday and regret everything that I didn't do because I was scared.

There is always the added bonus that if the world really does end in 2012, as my Korean students keep informing me, at least I'll be off on some fantastic adventure when it happens.
