One day we decided to rent scooters/motorbikes with some of our friends and see the island that way. You see a completely different side of the island this way and I'm so glad we decided to do it.
There was 8 of us and 4 bikes, so it was 2 people per bike and 300 pesos each (~$6) for two hours. They asked who was gonna drive between Brittany and I, and of course I immediately stepped up... I couldn't wait to get on that bike and tear it up. The clerk was telling me that this is a brand new bike and it had never been driven so to be careful. When I asked him how to use it his eyes nearly popped out of his head and he stuttered "..you...you've... you've never...driven one?"... nope! So he explains the brake and the gas and I get on and tell Brit to hop on. The minute Brit gets on I panic and jump off and tell her she has to drive. Chicken shit, ya.....I'll admit it. But look Brit had driven one before and it's really difficult for a first timer to have someone on the back. If I would have been alone that's one thing because if I fell I could handle that, but I can't handle someone else's life as well. It turned out alright though because as Brit drove around I took in all the sights, snapped some pictures and waved at children.
The sights included lush green landscapes, broken down wooden shacks, schools, beaches and the ocean. We saw one shack that was for sale at the top of a large hill, so if anyone is interested I have the contact information. It's nothing pretty but hey, all you really need is a roof over your head right?
The bike gang got a little lost and ended up off-roading on some super loose gravel. The drivers did there best but eventually kicked us riders off and made us walk. Turns out that it's possible to go the wrong way even when you don't know where you are going.
I love the beach, but getting off the beaten path was a nice change of pace for the day.
