The Bad Luck Strikes Again

There seems to be a cloud of bad luck hovering over me, and I'm starting to find it humorous. The latest? Yet another bus incident. After work today I had to run to the bank to get cash out to exchange tomorrow at the currency exchange. Since I was in a rush I decided to hop on a bus home. Instead of going through the underground and crossing the intersection I figured that I would hope on one bus stop ahead. I was positive that the bus was going to turn the corner and head the direction I needed it to... of course it did not... it went the opposite way. "Okay" I think, "it'll just loop around". The bus did not loop. And I stayed on for longer than I should have half hoping it would turn and half hoping it would end up at a subway stop where I could jump off. Neither really happened. I was on the bus for at least 25 minutes before I decided enough was enough and jumped off to find a cab. The story should end here, oh how I wish it ended here...

The cabbie was an asshole, plane and simple. I always say "Dongincheon" as that is the nearest subway stop, then I say my apartment name and the cab drivers always know and go there. This cabbie didn't even listen to me after "Dongincheon"... he just went speeding off. When we neared the station I knew he was going to the station and not my apartment so I handed him my registration card and pointed at my apartment name, he nodded and kept going. Then he turned the opposite way. I didn't want to try and tell him he was going the wrong way because they get really offended when they are taking a "short cut" and you try and tell them they aren't going the right way. Well this was no shortcut, he took me to immigration. The immigration address is on the bottom right of my card, but not where I was pointing or what I said. I had said my apartment name at least 10 times will in the cab. Then he turned around and started yelling at me for not saying my apartment name. What!? I know he was swearing at me too, and as much as I wanted to fight back, I still needed to get home.

FINALLY, we pull up outside my building, and I pay and go to get out when he says something so I turn around and he hands me money back and says the only English word he knows "discount". What? I didn't even know what to do or say, I just took the money and left the cab. I was still furious for his rant on me just a few minutes earlier.

As an isolated incident this wouldn't be an issue, but with the string of bad luck I've had for the past few months it's almost laughable. And especially because I just had my first bus disaster last weekend. I am officially pulling myself off any transportation duty during the Philippines vacation.
