St. Paddy's Day in Korea - updated

What do you get when you combine St. Patrick's Day, beer for less than $3, shots for less than $4, a funny text message and a Brit? A phone in a glass of beer obviously. OBVIOUSLY. yes... my British friend managed to drop my phone in a full beer. I am now phoneless and feel disconnected from everything. If I was back in Canada it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but of course, it's Korea and things aren't quite as simple as just going to the mall and getting a new phone the very next day. Hopefully I'll pick on up on Saturday before we head to the St. Paddy's Day parade in Seoul.

The night started out at Jeff's where a few of us had some food and a couple of beers. We headed to Rio's (one of our regular hangouts) where we had helped arrange a St. Patrick's Day party. Quite a few people showed up, expats and Koreans...ran in to friends I hadn't seen in months. Stayed way too late and am really glad that I have a later start day today and not 8am like most of my friends.

Other than that it was a great night. My friend won the green underwear contest and got a free bottle of whiskey. Played some darts, made some new friends. No Irish husband found. May be trying out for Gaelic Football in a couple weeks... which would be a laugh.

Here's a few pics from the night.. you've seen enough drinking pictures so I'll just post a few.

Update:

Saturday we bipassed the paraded because it was pouring in the area of Seoul we were in (Yongsan to get a new phone)... so we headed to Itaewon and had some food and beers. We arrived in Itaewon around 1:00pm, we left around 3:00am. Yes, the night got messy.

It was tons of fun and met up with different friends throughout the night. The highlight of the night was either the hooka and dancing on couches in the bar.. or the following text message from my friend...

Him: "Where are you"

Me: "It smells like popcorn"
Him: wtf?

Amazingly, they found us.. luckily we were only across the street. and it DID smell like popcorn.. we promptly found it at some Korean's table and ate it all... like the obnoxious foreigners we are. Soon after they bought us beer.

Thank god St. Paddy's day only comes once a year... lord knows I couldn't handle being Irish more than that.
