Heyri Artist Village

Monday marked the first of three vacation days for both Brittany and myself, our schools were shutting down so that our Korean teachers could also have a vacation. Not wanting to waste this precious gift we promised one another that we would get outside of Incheon and Seoul and see some of Korea. However, most everyone has these same days off so going anywhere and finding accommodations can be difficult.

We decided our first excursion would be a day trip to Heryi, which is about 45 minutes outside of Seoul, and about 10km from the DMZ (or so we read). In Heryi there is an area called "Artist Village"... full of museums, galleries, sculptures and more the place was fantastic. Unfortunately, many things are closed on Mondays in Korea, and Heyri was no exception. Most of the galleries were closed, but we managed to occupy ourselves until we were exhausted and the sun was going down.

Our first stop was lunch, neither of us eating in the morning and over an hour and a half traveling from Incheon we needed to fuel up. Stopping at the first place you see usually isn't the best idea, but in this case it was. We found a fantastic pasta and wine place and proceeded to have the best seafood pastas we have had in Korea along with a great bottle of Chilean wine. We could have sat there all day, but alas, we came to explore and explore we must!

This is when we started to realize that everything was closed. The first thing we found that was open was a ceramic studio where you paint your own ceramics. Now, I love art, but I am not a crafty person. Plus it takes me months to form a solid idea and actually paint it. We chose a Soju set and went upstairs to start painting. Mine looks like a grade 4 did it, and Brittany's looks absolutely wonderful... of course. Regardless though, it was lots of fun and something I never thought I would have the patience to sit down and do. In 2-3 weeks it will be ready and we have to figure out how to go back and get them.

Most of the rest of the day we just wandered around taking pictures of architecture, sculptures and foliage. We did find chocolate cafe and stopped for some milkshakes. Mom, you would have LOVED it... in all honesty it was too rich for me but still nice to cool down on what had turned out to be a hot sunny day outside of rainy, cloudy Seoul.

Look at this one closely. What do you see. A woman lying
down perhaps? Legs, boobs, arm behind her head.......and
when we walked up there were children playing IN her leg.
